Tips for Going Out to Bid
Tip #3, Warranties:
When does a warranty begin?
The day you sign the contract with the integrator?
The day the integrator starts the project?
The day they finish the installation?
The day the training is complete?
The day that you, the customer, "signs off accepting the system"?
or
Is the warranty based on the manufacturing date on the back of the equipment?
Suggestion:
The correct answer should be number 5. Remember, when the warranty date comes into play is not when the installation
is finished, but 10-12 months later when the warranty is in question. It is critical that you have clear documentation
to refer back to when these situations arise.
Also, remember that if your paperwork states one-year parts and labor, that is what you should receive. Many times
integrators will purchase large quantities of product because they can do so at a reduced cost. If that equipment
sits on their shelf for several months before you purchase it, the warranty date of the back on your equipment will
expire prior to your first year.
Most integrators are very reputable and have the best intentions, but you need to be very proactive in this area.
So do you homework up front and document your warranty information. You will be glad you did!
The Team AVS Educational Academy was created seven years ago to provide information to end users
on designing systems and selecting integrators. We currently offer a wide selection of courses
including Introduction to CCTV, Introduction to Access Control, Extreme Customer Service and Selecting an Integrator.
